The Find Full Text Authentication dialog appears when you have entered an OpenURL address and authentication URL under Find Full Text Preferences and then use the Find Full Text > Authenticate command from the References menu. You have been directed to your institution's log-in page. Follow the instructions to log in, such as entering the appropriate User ID and password. Once you are logged in, click Done.
Next, go back to the References menu and select Find Full Text > Find Full Text to start the search for full text documents for the selected EndNote references. EndNote begins searching for and downloading full text for the selected references. Full text downloading happens in the background, which may affect the performance of other operations.
References appear in groups under a Find Full Text group set. See The Find Full Text Groups for a description of the resulting groups.
Authentication is what subscription database providers require to show that you are allowed access to their site. Your company or university may host a site, or they may have paid for a license that allows all members access to a third party subscription database. Each database provider may have different authentication requirements, although it usually consists of a user ID and password. Because requirements differ between institutions, we use an authentication URL to direct you to the database log-in site.
You can use the Find Full Text > Authenticate command for testing. Enter an OpenURL path and authentication URL under Find Full Text Preferences. Then, go to the References menu and select Find Full Text > Authenticate to make sure you are directed to the correct log-in site.
You may also need to use this command to re-establish your connection to a subscription database. Your institution may sever your OpenURL connection after a certain amount of idle time. Unfortunately, there is no indication when that happens. You will need to go to the References menu, select Find Full Text and then Authenticate to restore access to the site. Just selecting Find Full Text > Find Full Text during this EndNote session will not restore authentication.
